What is LLL about?
LLL was created originally as a back-up 'plan' if the UK Lush Forum went down and the new one hadn't been sorted in time. We were not sure that LLL was going to be needed, but it turned out that it was. There are several other forums that Lush forumites are on, but none of them are 'Lush' themed (apart from the NA Lush Forum!) or specifically made for the UK Lush community. whereas LLL is. The idea was to avoid dispersions of Lushies either giving up on official Lush forums or for those who found it intimidating to join another established forum, and therefore keeping the community together. LLL is not an 'official' Lush Forum but the staff@Lush are aware of LLL and do not have a problem with us. It is run by UK Lush forumites, not Lush as a business and any views expressed are solely the views of individuals and not LLL as a forum.
Can I donate to help pay for hosting?
LLL is hosted free by ProBoards, so we don't pay for hosting. Titch has kindly previously paid for our own domain name www.littlelostlushies.co.uk which forwards to the proboards address - now I have purchased domain 'LLLforum.co.uk' which again forwards to here. The old Little Lost Lushies link will no longer work - the forum name has changed to just 'the LLL forum' as of 2012.
You will see adverts at the top of the page - Proboards income is from advertising revenue. There is the option to 'buy' off the adverts at $7 for 50000 clicks - not worth it for a large active forum like this IMO!
Why doesn't my account activate?
You have registered an account but on your profile, it says 'Not Activated'. After you register, there should be a page that comes up that notifies you that an activation key has been sent to your email address. Please note that an unactivated account does not mean you cannot post and browse on the forum. The only benefit of an 'activated' account is that you can receive email notifications from the site. If it says it has sent you an activation email but you look in your inbox and there is nothing there - it could either be blocking it as spam or putting it in your Junk mail. You can still use the forum as normal.
Why can't I put spaces/capital letters in my name?
I am not sure why exactly you can't sign up without spaces or capital letters in your username but it doesn't matter because as soon as you are registered, you can go into your account profile and change your Display Name to what you want it to look like.
Your username stays the same - as it isn't the same as your Display Name. For example, my username is 'admin' as that's what you get when you create a forum with proboards. You use your username to log in.
How do I put up an Avatar?
This is one of the most common questions here so far. It's relatively straightforward though probably a little bit different than what you are used to.
Here are the instructions:
1. Choose a picture - preferrably one sized to AV size already (approx 100x100pixels) Photobucket has a resize feature, or you can request for someone to resize pics for you if you are still not sure what to do.
2. Upload it to photobucket or any other image hosting site.
3. Use the DIRECT LINK and place it in the AV field in 'Modify Profile'. This should just be a plain URL, it does not have html or ubbc tags either side.
4. Click on the 'modify profile' button to save your changes.
Why does my AV looks so small/out of proportion?
There is an auto resize which is 65x65 pixels. If you go to 'modify profile', you can change the values to 100x100 pixels. 100pixels is the maximum.
If it looks out of proportion, your AV wasn't originally square. If it is portrait - make it 90 pixels width. If your AV is slightly more landscape, go for 100 width and 90 height. Or just adjust the values until your AV looks OK.
How do I get a signature picture?
First choose your picture and upload it as per the Avatar instructions. You will then need to put the direct link in your 'signature field' in your modify profile form with img tags either side of it. ie.
Signature banners should not be wider than 500 pixels or they will stretch the page.
Aim for a sig at approx 150 pixels by 500. (1.2 x 4.2cm approx)
What is 'Karma'?
Karma is a fun element to forumming and there is no hidden meaning to it. It's a kind of 'Kudos' or a bit like a facebook 'like' button.
If you look at peoples’ mini-profiles (under their Avatars) you will see an ‘exalt’ button. Exalt gives the member one Karma point. You can only exalt once an hour.
This is not a contest about who can get the most Karma, and generally the more you exalt, the more you will get exalted if you do not do it anonymously. Most people choose to do it anonymously. If at any point you notice your Karma score is going down, please PM or FAO me asap with the time period you think it went down in and I will check it out.
Update 25/09: Can I discourage arranging 'karma buddies' (private agreement between you and a friend/friends to only Karma each other continually on every hour to bump your scores artificially). This undermines the idea of karma. If it is noticed, your scores will be reduced as forfeit.
We also do not allow 'Karma chain' threads as that is not the idea of Karma - Karma should be 'earnt'. This is to keep the scores fair and meaningful.
Smiting
If you see the smite button, it is because the page hasn't finished loading or because of a technical error. Please do not use it! If you think you have been smited, please let me know ASAP so I can check in the forum logs. If you have been smited, I will put your score back to how it was and message the 'smiter' to let them know. 99% of the time, the smite was done by accident - please do not be upset about it.
If you are someone who is aware of the no-smite rule or you have already had one warning and you smite again, your karma score will be set to 0 as a forfeit.
Can I swear?
You can type out anything in your posts - but the strongest swearwords have been censored. If you are swearing in an understandable context and very occasionally at being angry at something, then OK fair enough. Moderators can't read everyone's posts to check and we aren't going to be pedantic about it if it's just the occasional, and neither is that breaking the ToS to the extent of violation.
However, the no-profanity policy is part of the Terms of Service and we interpret that under the 'spam' and 'abuse' categories.
If you are cheating the censors to spam or using profanities (filtered ones or not) directed at another member then you will be suspended or banned depending on the extend of the offences.
Please keep in mind that this forum is family friendly and could have 13yr old members. We don't like to see too many words with asterisks in your posts, and especially thread titles. Please think of alternative words to use
What are the Terms of Service/ToS?
The terms of service are what you agreed to on signing up to the forum. As this is a freely hosted site, we do not have control if Proboards decides this site is breaking the ToS (could result in board deletion) and therefore members need to be aware of it.
Here are the ToS if you want to re-read them:
You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY law. This is not only humorous, but legal actions can be taken against you. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also inappropriate to this forum.
Note that it is impossible for us to confirm the validity of posts on this forum. Please remember that we do not actively monitor the posted messages and are not responsible for their content. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any information presented. The messages express the views of the author, not necessarily the views of this forum. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an administrator of this forum immediately. We have the rights to remove objectionable content, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. This policy goes for member profile information as well.
You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless this forum, and any related websites to this forum. We at this forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any information we have about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any information posted by you.
You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate. With this user account you are about to register, you agree to never give your password out to another member, for your protection and for validity reasons. You also agree to NEVER use another member's account to post messages or browse this forum.
After you register and log into this forum, you can fill out a detailed profile. It is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information. Any information we deem inaccurate or vulgar will be removed.
Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.
You are solely responsible for any and all attachments that you post to this forum. You may not post files to this forum which contain copyrighted material that you do not have permission from the author to post.
You also agree to the entire ProBoards.com Terms of Service.
NB. Extra hacks (codes) that I add to this board are not against the ToS. There are regulations with the hacks (ie you are not allowed to use a code that gets rid of the adverts) but the approved codes are not against any ToS.
Who are the staff here?
I am the admin, owner and creator of LLL, Kenney and Belladonna are standby-admins/global mods . Other global mods are Snowkitten and Zannah. The swapping mods are Spangly and Oprah Noodles.
Why is this board moderated but the old Lush Forum wasn't?
It's a good question and the answer is because it is run by different people and not the Lush staff! It is also to do with it being a freely hosted site and therefore we need to abide by Proboards ToS. Also - this forum operates an anti-abuse policy and we need moderators to ensure that this is enforced. This site is not the Lush IF's direct replacement, so the way that site was run has no correlation to how this one is run. The staff of the site set the standards and try to uphold them with a good balance - no overmoderating, but enough moderating for members to know they are in safe, friendly community. Here is more info about moderation here at LLL:
LLL Disclaimer and guidelines
Please note that the moderators/admins reserve the right to edit/remove/lock your posts/threads if they feel that they are becoming detrimental to discussions, abusive or breaking ToS. We will endevour to explain why, if it happens.
What do the hearts/words beginning with L under my name mean?
They are ranks icons based on your postcount. We chose discontinued Lush products for the rank titles As of 2012 we now have words beginning with L. Everyone has these ranks except for the staff who sadly can't have 'mod' rank and the post count rank at the same time!
What's the difference between Quick Reply and 'Reply'?
With quick reply, the posting area loads at the bottom of the page for convenience if you just want to make a quick post.
The normal reply will come up with the full posting options, with the ubbc tags, colours and the full set of smilies.
How do I view 'Active Topics?
If you click on the 'handy bar' icon at the top under the banner, you will see a set of links. View Active topics is one of them. this no longer exists. You can use the 'New topics' link on the top menu.
How do I 'watch a topic'?
You can either select 'bookmark this thread' when you are writing a post in the little checkbox list, or click on the 'watch topic' icon at the top left within a thread.
To view your watched topics easily, there is a button on the main page (home) at the bottom left. You can use the options to set email/PM notifications.
What is the 'handy bar'?
It's a handy shortcut to view handy links. It's the purple bath melt there under the banner. Clicky and see! This feature no longer exists.
What is a custom title/how do I get one?
Custom titles are the coloured titles that go under your rank icons. To request one please go to this thread and a moderator/admin will get to it as soon as they can.
Anyone who wants a Custom Title
Can Mods/admins read my PMs?
No. The only way ANYONE can read your PMs is if they either 'hack' your account or you tell them/they find out your password. Staff do not know your passwords. If your account has been hacked by staff without them knowing your password, they would be forced to change your password, which means you wouldn't be able to access your account anymore. Bit of a giveaway! If you think your account has been hacked, please contact me as soon as possible via email.
I've got/made my own forum, can I advertise it?
You can advertise it in your sig, and/or if you think it is appropriate, you can tell others about it in a thread.
To put a website name/url in your profile, it needs to start with 'http://' and not www.
Is there a swap feedback system?
Yes there is - click here to view.
Why does some of my profile details show on Google?
The board can be viewed by search bots meaning the google search bots could come around and take findings to put back onto a google search. Please don't panic if you see your gender, DOB etc on Google. If you have real concerns about your security, please drop me a PM asap. I can't do anything now about the results and I did not know profiles would going to be showing on google when this board opened.
There is now a hack added that has disabled 'guests' from reading profiles. this however does not stop bots scanning profiles.
Please set any info you want 'hidden' in your profiles. It takes a while for the Google results to then update. There should be no profiles on google added since the hack was implemented.
Also, your email address will not show on google, even if you have it set to show on your profile. If you can see your email address when you click on the search result link from google, it's because you are logged into LLL and you will be able to view your own profile.
Regarding your posts, they will not show on google results if they are NOT posts from Welcome section. All the other sections are closed to guest viewing unless otherwise stated in the board descriptions.
Can I make a complaint/suggestion?
Of course you can - please start a thread about it, or if you prefer to stay anonymous, please PM a member of staff.
If you have a complaint either about the forum or a member, please PM an admin or moderator with details and links. There is a also a 'report post' link at the bottom right of posts - this alerts staff only to the post and your comment about it.
For more info about the Forum Policies and Moderating, please read this thread.
